The Mary and Harriett Shornden Charity (‘The Shornden Charity’)
This charity is ‘for the benefit of the poor of the Parish of Wormshill as the Rector and Churchwardens might think fit’. It is charity number 253910 and its governing instruments date between 1884 and 1979.
The charity meets its objectives through making a Christmas gift to elderly residents of the Parish. The trustees aim to maintain a list of those they believe eligible but are always happy to receive new applications which they will consider at their next meeting.
The Poor’s Land Charity
This charity is ‘for the children of persons resident in the Parish of Wormshill without distinction as to religious sect’. It is charity number 307647 and its governing instruments date between 1860 and 1979.
The charity meets its objectives through the provision of educational materials or support to children and young people who are residents of the village. It has done this in the past by providing dictionaries to those moving from primary to secondary education but would be prepared to consider other possibilities as long as they are consistent with the charity’s objects.
The trustees aim to maintain a list of those they believe eligible but are always happy to receive new applications which they will consider at their next meeting.
Administration
The two charities have a common set of trustees who hold two meetings a year, one in November and one in March. The chair of the trustees is by common practice the chair of the Annual Parish Meeting. For further details please contact the Chair using the details on the sidebar.
